How many travel softball games are actually close?
Published Oct 21, 2026 · numbers as of Oct 21, 2026; they change as more games are played · by TourneyMagic
We looked at 211,098 travel softball games from the past year:
- 8U: 18% were won by 1–2 runs, 61% by 7 or more
- 10U: 28% close, 41% by 7+
- 12U: 29% close, 38% by 7+
- 14U and up: 30% close, 36% by 7+
From 10U up, only about three games in ten are decided by one or two runs, and more than a third end in a run rule. At 8U most do.
Close games come from evenly matched fields. Every tournament on TourneyMagic shows who's registered and how strong they are, so you can pick a weekend where your team will play games that mean something.
